Welcome to February everybody! The snow is basically all melted in Fredonia for now so that makes me happy! Maybe we'll be breaking out the golf clubs here pretty soon. Guess we'll see on that one.
Shout out to the little brother for getting his patriarchal blessing yesterday. They grow up so fast.
Tuesday
Highlight of the day was our lesson with Sally Kingsley. Man she is a fireball of energy. If I have half as much energy as she does when I'm 83 I'll be doing well for myself. So we're sitting in her lesson when all of a sudden the phone rings and she answers it. (As one does) She then proceeds to get up and leave right out of our lesson! But fear not, she had ordered pizza right before we got there for her "Mormon boys." Haha I wish I had a dollar for every time I have been called that. So after we enjoyed some good pizza and an interesting gospel discussion, we stopped by my Puerto Rican brothers. Always good to see my little gorditos haha. They are always good to help me with my Spanish and they're super chill! They need to come back to church! We have also been trying former investigators and have seen some success from that! A lot of people got dropped for unclear reasons so we've been seeing if they are willing to make changes in their lives! We'll see what happens!
Wednesday
We had this really awesome super busy day planned out, and then we had like 5 people cancel on us. No buuuueno. It taught me that we always need to have back up plans! Guess I've been getting lazy on that and I needed to be taught a lesson! LESSON LEARNED. Hah after all that excitement we ended up being able to teach a few lessons which was good! We also headed to Jamestown for our weekly missionary meeting with Brother Elliss. He's a stud from Cedar City and he's super pumped to help us out!
Thursday
Had district meeting in Jamestown and this one was one of the better ones! Everyone participated which always makes them better! We got fed Cafe Rio burritos by a member for lunch so that was heaven. People out here know what to give all of us Utah boys haha. After that we contacted this referral who is running out of time. Literally. She doesn't have long to live. She has a friend that referred her to us and so it was a really interesting meeting but she was nice enough! I've had some crazy situations of people on my mission I swear. She seemed open to more appointments so as always I guess we'll see what happens! After that we saw a less active who we haven't seen in FOREVER. Turns out she doesn't answer the door because of her dog. Laaaaaame. Why don't we just set the thing free into the wild?? After that the Rosinskis took us out to eat to good ol' Azteca. They basically know me by first name because members like to take us over there a lot! Ask me if I mind? Not at all. Hah it's one of the few good restaurants in town and it gets a lot of love from the Mormons.
Friday
Had a really good meeting with Grandma Joyce! We helped her take down her Christmas tree and she was nice enough to feed us! Grandma Joyce is great. We gave her a Book of Mormon which she was super excited about! We showed her a video and she seemed super pumped to read it! Hopefully she does!! After that Brother Sharon needed some help from us at his office so he picked us up to go do that! We ended up steaming his green screen for a video he's shooting tomorrow haha! You never know what kind of service people will need. I'm learning all sorts of stuff out here y'all. Hah that reminds me of one thing I haven't mentioned before. Out here some people (especially in PA) say "yous." Like last night at dinner our waitress said: "How yous doing tonight?" You think that's crazy, just wait there's more. You get down to Pittsburgh and it changes to yinz. "PITTSBURGH VS. ALL YINZ" Haha so there's your culture for today.
Saturday
Did our weekly service with the doggies which gets more and more fun every time we go. 🙄 I have a new Hallsism where I believe all dogs need to be set free into the wild. Just an opinion. Later in the day we tried a bunch of people that we had appointments with but they seemed to have forgotten that part... Hah so we hit the trail and started finding others! Someone yelled at us from a car saying we were cute so we'll try not to get too flattered. Looks like our PR is on the upswing though. Other than that not too much to report. Basically everyone thinks we are Jehovah's witnesses so that gets annoying... Haha someone requested a bible so we went to go give it to them and the guy at the door asked us I kid you not 3 times if we were JW's. Haha people have a hard time believing us. So pray that people will not think we're JW's.
Sunday
Church was in Jamestown for 5th Sunday which was awesome! It's always good to be with the ward! We had really good meetings and it was all geared to what this Ward really needs!! I'm hoping we see some changes around here! After church we had a couple of really good lessons! We met with Carlos and Rosa who are a Puerto Rican couple that crack me up. They don't speak any English which is perfect. Hah they are happy to have us in and listen which is a nice change! Hah we explained the Book of Mormon to them and they're hard core Pentacostal but hey people change, everything's in constant motion. After that the Olrogg's fed us which was awesome!! We showed them the video Lift!! Go watch it!! It will make you want to be a better person I can promise you that! As we showed it you could feel the spirit sooo strong! It was a very special experience and something they won't soon forget! All in all a super good day. I spent a lot of time laughing so that's always solid. The mission is FUN! Don't let anyone tell you different. Today I spent a lot of time with primary kids and they are hilarious! I love getting to know people here in the ward. This place has started to feel like home which means I'll probably get transferred soon haha...
Good week as always! Hah I feel like every week is a good week...
Fun fact: I have discovered I'm a sleep talker. Apparently the other night I said: "We'll have to make a decision by then." I said that two times back to back. Always making decisions.
Anyways hope you've all had splendid weeks and that you keep on keeping on.
Hasta lasagna,
Elder Halls
