Hey!
Happy Memorial Day everybody! Hope you are enjoying it with family and friends doing something fun! We are going golfing today so you better believe I don't break tradition.
Tuesday
The members here mixed with the Samuelsons make our days run sooo smooth. It's silk. We were worried our day was going to be a little rough, but no such thing here in Williamsport. We keep working with the part member families AKA the gold mines. We had a sweet night with the Flucks! They are converts of 2 years and have this awesome kid named Dakoda! He's 9 and he introduced me to some serious Pokemon. He gave me like 3 cards and expects me to go buy some more to duel him... I'll see what I can do. Really sweet kid and he wants to come to church with his family!!
Wednesday
I headed 60 miles north up to Towanda for an exchange! Good times. We went and taught the only Spanish family they have which was great! Their little daughter Rebecca talked my ear off!! She spoke perfect Spanglish which was pretty funny to hear. She was switching back and forth mid sentence and it was amazing. Example: "Cuando tenemos the prayer siento como muy happy." We gave her El Libro de Mormón and committed her to share it with her friend! I hope she does it because she was pretty pumped!
Thursday
This old man told me that golf was one of the stupidest games ever invented. Some people. I was offended but got over it. Other than that we had a rough day topped off with our weekly service at this old church called the Son Light House. Golf is great and there's always tomorrow.
Friday
We had an awesome teaching day which made up for our lack luster performance on Thursday. That's the life of a missionary! Bishop Hill yet again let Jackie know the importance of the Book of Mormon! Baptist converts are the best. We also had someone tell us that God should go on strike and turn the sun off so that was interesting... We went and saw the crazy cat lady who currently doesn't know how many cats she has. I'm no rookie, so I suggested we meet outside and avoid the smell of her house. She accepted which was a HUGE blessing. The Samuelsons took us out to dinner which was super nice!! It's seriously like having your grandparents with you. (Not like anyone can replace my grandparents) Buuuut Shout out to senior couples. We wrapped it up with a nice meeting with Mary. I hope she comes to church.
Saturday
We went and power washed this horse arena for this less active/anti-Mormon family. Super interesting. They're really nice people, but have seriously gone off the path. It's sad because he served a mission and everything, but now he doesn't even believe in God. It really puts a downer on your day as this guy starts telling us all these things that he thinks are wrong about the church... Kinda fires me up to be honest! I could write paragraphs about this kind of stuff but I'll leave it at that. Study from good books and know what is actual church material! We deal with so many anti people it seems like and they are all so miserable. The gospel truly brings happiness to those who live it.
Sunday
We finally had some investigators come to church!! Mary came which was great! She gets super nervous around people which is unfortunate when you're new to a church... She had to take two smoke breaks in between Sacrament and Sunday school so it looks like some word of wisdom discussion will be in order... But hey, she came and felt the spirit. That night we had dinner with the Kalamafoni family! They're half Tongan, half Mexican, and all huge. They feed us sooo much. If you want to see, look up Sione Kalamafoni on Google. He plays rugby for some team in England. Moral of this story is never let a Tongan put food on your plate. They don't stop.
I decided to throw in some stuff that doesn't always make it into the every day portion of the emails.
Random thoughts
- We had dinner with 97 year old Lori Kaye and her Hillbilly friend Sis. Pentz who asked us in a text: "When are u'uns coming over?" Pennsylvania man. Luckily, only all of the food was burnt.
- I won an argument with the Samuelsons about who sings "Fire and Rain" it's James Taylor. That's not even "back in my day."
- Elder Montgomery has a teddy bear from his girlfriend. Every time he squeezes the paw it says: "Happy Birthday Harley, I miss you!" I especially love it when it goes off right as I fall asleep.
- The Samuelsons got in a little argument about directions as we got lost in the hills... Sister Samuelson finally admitted she was wrong and mankind everywhere fist pumped.
- All the men in PA like to sit on their porch shirtless. It makes for some interesting sights.
I'm having fun, figuring out what is right and wrong, and starting to sweat. The humidity is coming. Hope you're all doing well and good luck to those who leave on missions this week and the coming weeks! Also, congrats to the class of 2016! Hope you all enjoy graduation!
Take it easy,
Elder Halls
