It's me again. Hope all of you had a good Mother's Day and were able to enjoy time spent with family. It has definitely become one of my favorite holidays! This week was awesome! We ended the transfer with a super productive week! I will be staying in Williamsport so no surprise there!
We started off the week with this wild Puerto Rican lesson. Elder Montgomery said it was the craziest of his mission but I thought it was fairly normal for Latinos! Hah we were teaching 6 people at the same time and there was a lot of shouting and what not... Gotta love it. I'm so happy we are finding Spanish speakers!!
Have you ever walked into a house with 16 cats and 2 dogs? I have. We teach this less active family in the HILLS of PA. They are legit hillbillies. These cats have also taken over their home. She keeps food for them on the counter so they just walk on the countertop and all over the place. It's a little foreign to me... So we go to teach them and as we walk in the door this incredible odor just hit me in the face. It was awful. But this is just the beginning. We still have a message to teach... The smell is so bad that you can't breathe through your nose but you can practically taste it breathing through your mouth. Bad news. So I'm just trying to tough it out but I'm also allergic to cats so my throat starts getting itchy... Bad news again. Hah we ended up teaching about prophets and then wrapped it up with the prayer. I think for our sake we're going to start meeting outside.
I love real people. There are so many people who hide everything and put on a face while we're in their home and it drives me crazy. We met with this guy who was baptized 3 years ago and has since gone less active. You could write a book on his life. He's been through so much and I just admire who he is as a person. We were sitting with him and we had hardly been there ten minutes before he just opened up to us about everything that's been going on. He's slipped back into old drinking habits and is so mad at himself that he did it. He was so sincere about how he wants to do the best for his family and it was a really powerful spiritual moment. Before we left his home he said a prayer and it was definitely one of the best I have ever heard. He talked to our Heavenly Father just like he was talking to an old friend and I love that. It was so powerful! I feel like my prayers get so repetitive sometimes and I need to change!
Boys and girls, make good choices. I think a big part of serving a mission is learning from others experiences. We meet with a young couple in their early 20's. Let's just say I hope to be in a little different place at 22.... Drinking, drugs, smoking, and a lack of education is not a good mix... They all say the same thing. Don't ever do it. Don't ever drink or smoke! So let that be a lesson to you. Andy also called us the Jedi Masters of Jesus. Haha we pulled up to his house and he was outside with a friend and he just says: "Hey look man! It's the Jedi Masters of Jesus!" Hah I guess that was an honor. We're doing something right out here I guess.
We drive a lot. We had an awesome lesson with this fella named Jim who lives about an hour north of us. That's a long way for an appointment but it was worth it. We brought an old friend of his with us and it was a perfect team up! Members really make a huge difference when you can get the right one! Jim was sealed in the temple but hasn't been to church in 16 years. The guy has been through a ton! His wife passed away a few years back and it's been rough on him. Luckily his old pal was able to motivate him and he said he'll come back to church. Goooood.
Not as much to write this week and that may be due to the fact that I got to skype home... Good stuff! Hope you all have a great week! Stay in school kids.
Much love,
Elder Halls
