Week 35 Finding the Hidden Latinos

Hey everybody!

Crazy to think a year has passed since I opened my call. That was such a crazy night and something I won't forget! So if you were there that night, a year has gone by. Looks like we're all getting old.

So after our awesome P day Elder Bell and I went on an exchange. Prime stuff. We were walking in this park and I heard ¡vamonos! This is rare in this part of PA because sadly there aren't a ton of Latinos. My ears perked up and we went and talked to them. Turns out they're from Honduras and it was the first Latino family Elder Bell had seen in a long time! Cool to see how we were guided to be there at that time. Probably one of the few Spanish speaking families in Williamsport and I happened to find them on an exchange. Pretty sweet. I also got to ride the bikes for the first time which was AWESOME. One of my buddies Andrew Gray was talking about riding bikes in his weekly a while back and it's truly like a dream come true. It's like what you always think of missionaries as a kid! As I rode over the bridge crossing the Susquehanna river I just had a huge smile on my face. It was that sweet feeling after almost a year since I got my call that this is the place for me. We were super busy and saw a ton of people. We had to go on splits and that was a little wild! Going on splits when you're not in your own area is fun.

On Wednesday we went out to the boonies of our area to find some people we hadn't  met before. We've been super blessed to find people these past few weeks. There's been several times where we pull up and they're outside gardening or just outside! It makes it really easy for us! We're also teaching a little girl named Nadia right now. Her mom and grandma are members but her dad doesn't want her to be baptized. She's in 4th grade and really wants to be a member so we're praying that her dad will soften his heart a little bit! I don't know if you all remember Jackie or if I've mentioned him before, but he has sadly been dropped.  He's been investigating the church FOREVER and finally made the choice to stay with the JW. You can't faith away someone's agency.

Friday I had a pretty amazing experience. Well it was all sorts of things. So we were in a lesson and I pulled out my iPad to show our investigator the pamphlets we have on here. It asked me for a new password because my old one had expired. Kinda lame but whatever I did it really quick. BIG MISTAKE. After I got out of the lesson I couldn't get back in to my iPad. I remembered the numbers but I had somehow got the sequence out of order. So I proceed to disable the beloved thing. Now you have to realize our iPads have everything on them basically. Area book, scriptures, the whole nine yards. So if I can't get back in, it automatically restores itself which means I lose all my pictures, notes, all that good stuff. So all my buddies serving foreign be grateful you don't have to put a password on your area book. Anyways how was this problem solved? A solid prayer. I figured the only way out of this one was with Heavenly Father's help. So I got down and said a very heart felt prayer. I asked Him to be able to get back in to my iPad. I waited on my knees until I felt good about the set of numbers I thought it could possibly be. After a while I felt that I knew which numbers I had switched up so I needed to try again! I went back into the other room and sure enough that was it. Huge testimony builder to me about the power of prayer. Even if it is something so little as a password to an iPad! God cares about the little things!

We found a Latino family.  The walk elders called us in the middle of the day and said some lady came up to them and asked if they had Spanish missionaries. They gave me the information and we got there ASAP. I was sooo happy!! Finding Latinos in Williamsport is like finding a 100$. They are extremely rare and must be handled with extreme care. So Elder Bell (who is not assigned Spanish speaking but probably should be) and I go to teach them and they are sweet! A little scary without having a native comp for the first lesson, but I was definitely helped. They told us they have been wanting the missionaries to knock on their door for a long time but they never have! They asked super deep questions and I'm pumped for them. We just had a great day. Andy AKA I'll be baptized 100 times also broke down to us about how much Jesus means to him which was sweet. One of those things where all you can say is amen brother. Good times in Willy.

It's a good time to be a missionary in the Willy zone!! Things are happening here. We went to a baptism on Saturday and there will be a lot more on the way! Everyone is working super hard and being blessed for it.

It's a great day to be alive,

Elder Halls
