Buenos Días! Another great week out here in PA. We saw the temple this week so that was a huuuuge highlight for me! Stay tuned.
Tuesday
Saw a bunch of less actives and our investigator Mary! We have stressed so much to her the importance of the Book of Mormon. Sometimes agency is a tough thing but it's oh so important! We were lumberjacks in the morning for Sis. Pentz who lives out in the sticks. There was a crazy storm that blew a bunch of trees over and we were called to the rescue. Pretty fun stuff actually! Just wish I could grow a beard and get some flannel.
Wednesday
Walked around Montoursville in the middle of the day and found none of our potentials home. That's missionary life! We stopped by a former investigator named Shawn and I think she may have been on some form of drugs. Super crazy!! She was going 100 in a 65. Wild woman for sure. President came out for interviews which was awesome! I love that time with him. I received some solid advice as always! Wrapped up the night in a super smelly trailer with a less active. Flies were buzzing all around the sink and all that good stuff. Remember to do the dishes when it's your turn...
Thursday
The Assistants came out for a blitz of our area and we had a pretty good day! I was with Elder Ord! Solid guy from Southern Cal! He's 24 years young which is always crazy to think about how old some of the missionaries out here are! We have some older guys! We found a new part member family to teach which is just what we need! I hope everything goes well over there! The Samuelsons fed us an awesome dinner and then we saw the Lakes family! They are doing so well and are genuinely happy! It's been awesome to see them change! Kaley is pumped to be confirmed this Sunday and go to the temple!
Friday
APs left in the morning but not without eating all of our food. Thanks buddies. Hah it's all good but we've been getting creative. We had a wild dinner with the Buynak family and their 5 little kids! They made us a Pennsylvania Dutch staple for our veggie, you guessed it, pickled beets. Not my favorite thing in the world but it's all a part of the culture of PA! We talked to a drunk guy on a porch so that was interesting. Talking with everyone you can gets you in some weird places! Nice enough fella and he at least knew we were Mormons. If I've learned anything out here it's that the spirit can't be with someone that's intoxicated.... It just doesn't work.
Saturday
I was on an exchange with Elder Goeckeritz in Williamsport. We did some service in the middle of the day for a guy named Wayne Joe. Wayne Joe is a perfect example of what you don't want to do in life. He's had a rough life filled with drugs and all that bad stuff... We were helping him move dirt and stones around his mom's house which was needed! Only problem was we did it at 1:00 so it was hooooooot! Good hard work though! We later saw their investigator Janet who is one of the most sincere ladies out there. She said she wants to "marry her religion" and refers herself to as a Mormon already. She's a hoot! That night there was a Ward BBQ and pool party so we went! We enjoyed some good food and soccer with the niños! Good times!
Sunday
We went to Philly!! Kaley was confirmed at sacrament meeting in the morning and then we made the 3 and a half hour trek to the temple! Man, the temple is amazing. It's truly in the heart of Philadelphia. It's a mile away from the Museum of Art and 1.5 miles from the Liberty Bell! It's just right there as your driving on the freeway and it's beautiful! The tour was awesome and one of the things I loved was right as you walk in there's a huge painting of the founding fathers signing the Declaration of Independence. I love how the temples match up with the surrounding areas! All the furniture is red, white, and blue! Ahh wish you guys could've seen it. It was great to feel the peace of the temple especially in the celestial room. All of our investigators loved it as well! The Democratic National Convention was going on and it was craaaazy. So many cops. Literally saw one on every corner. After the tour we had a little time so we ran over to the museum of art to see the "Rocky" steps. They were blocked off, but we got to see them from a far.
Random goodness
- Elder Spencer tried to make fried rice on Tuesday and it didn't turn out so well. Nothing quite like soupy rice and eggs. We love when the members feed us.
- Five Guys is still as good as ever.
- There was a crew of girls walking around Philly giving free hugs so that was awkward.... None of us cashed in so we're still doing good. Pretty funny as they tried to get close to us. Loyal and true y'all.
This week was crazy, amazing, and a whole bunch of other stuff! I love to see the temple so that primary song is super true! Can't wait for that building to be dedicated! I hope to go back there some day to do work! The work here in Willy keeps on rolling! I hope to stay for one more transfer!! Love you all and enjoy summer!
