Well Happy Martin Luther King Day everyone haha. Most of you are probably kicking back at home having a Harry Potter marathon or something so good for you! I told Elder Ekins we need to celebrate Martin Luther King day somehow so we'll see what happens there.....
Well, if you are still interested in what's happening in Western New York please take a gander here.
Monday
I let Elder Ekins cut my hair so that was a big mistake. It looked pretty dang bad at first but then we somehow blended and now I look..... Interesting. Haha oh well it's comp unity at its finest when you cut each other's hair. After he cut it he said: "The only difference between a good and bad haircut is two weeks." So we'll see if that's true.
Tuesday
Had to park the car because it was an absolute blizzard so we decided to walk instead. SOO COLD. Hah we ended up walking 5 miles just shoveling snow and we went and saw a less active as well! People think we're crazy so I'm not sure if that's good or bad... I've learned that when it snows here basically everyone just shuts down for the day. There was a driving ban in Dunkirk so our meal appointment cancelled along with a couple other of our appointments for that day! Missionary work is tough when no one wants to meet with you! We just have to keep trying and I feel like this winter I will be shoveling A LOT of snow.
Wednesday
We got a text during comp study asking if we wanted to go to Bob Evans for breakfast. The answer to that question is always yes. We got breakfast and the person that invited us is less active so we got to share a message with her! Hah she's super interesting but aren't we all a little weird in one way or another? Hah anyways after that it started snowing super hard again so we parked the car and grabbed the shovels. That has become a bit of a daily thing. We went to the Przybysz house to help them out with shoveling and they hooked me up with this weird hot chocolate that I'd never had before! After that it cleared up and we went and saw a couple less actives! It ended up being awesome and we committed them to come back to church! I've realized a lot of people that have lost their way need two things:
- To feel the spirit again.
- An invitation to come to church!
We have been trying to do that even more in our lessons recently and it's made a big difference!
Thursday
We were in Erie for most of the day for zone training! I always like zone trainings because you usually learn something you need to improve on and you get to see other friends here on the mission! We also always have a zone activity with it and this time it was toilet paper dodge ball. Haha sounds super weird but it's pretty fun! The training was on how we need to do a better job at planning. I know that's something that I need to do better!! If we don't set good plans and good goals every day we're basically just wasting our time! That's something Elder Ekins and I will be working on in the coming weeks! Also Sister Holingshead fixed my hair after a bunch of people asked me what happened to the back of my head so I guess that was good.
Friday
Had an appointment with a crazy old lady named Sally. Haha man she had what we call the PA ramble mixed with a whole bunch of crazy beliefs!! Hah she called herself a "Mor-wit" meaning she was baptized LDS but has since started going to church with the Jehovah's witnesses. Haha needless to say she has A LOT of conflicting beliefs and we tried to straighten them out! It's gonna take a lot of work!! We also did some mission help with Ammon Yarber and he's been improving a lot!! We've been helping him every week and he's starting to make a lot of improvement!
Saturday
Met with Faye to start her recent convert lessons! We showed her the restoration video and I'm always amazed with the Joseph Smith story. I've heard and read it countless times, but I always feel the spirit when I do! I know he was the prophet of the restoration! She's still doing awesome and her testimony continues to grow little by little! We also have finally tried every single one of our Fredonia names! Only took us a few months! We had one of those rare days today where almost everything went perfectly. There were 3 times where we got to someone's house right as they pulled in or were leaving, so we actually got to talk to them! I loooove when that happens! Makes everything go so much better and it helps us know that we are being looked after! Every little thing that happens is for a reason! Hah it was cool to see that!
Sunday
We taught the lesson in church and it was super cool to hear Wendy Nickerson share her testimony of how we helped change her families life!! She started bawling and it was really emotional for everyone there! That's what I love about being a missionary! We never gave up on them, and they are so thankful for that!! The gospel changes people and to be just a small portion of that change is a blessing. We also met with a lady who took her name off the records of the church and now wants to come back! She's an older lady, but has decided to change her life which I think is awesome! It's never too late! We finished off the day with the Olroggs! They are awesome! Super welcoming to us and everything, but are not quite ready to accept the gospel! They always thank us so much for the messages we bring, but they aren't really willing to change yet! But we won't give up on them!
Well if you made it this far Kudos to you! Hah if not, God still loves you. This week was interesting. With all the snow we have had I thought we would have a super hard time teaching lessons! FALSE!
We taught the most lessons since I have been here and that was pretty awesome! It just goes to show you that if you stay diligent and never give up, good things will happen!! I know that!
Hope all is going well wherever you find yourself in the world! Just wanted to say thanks to all of you who have been praying for me or writing me! It means a lot!!
Love you guys!
It's hard to be down when you're feeling brown,
Elder Halls
