Tuesday
Had a successful day for a Tuesday! Hah usually we have a hard time on Tuesdays but we are changing that!! We met with a guy who got a ton of help from the church when his house flooded so that was good! He had some..... Interesting beliefs. He told us that he brews a cup of coffee and offers it on a prayer alter to the Obama family, Jesus, the Dhali llama, and a bunch of other leaders so that was interesting. He has a ton of faith so we just need to direct it in a better direction! We will see what happens there! We also saw a couple less actives and had dinner with the Harrises! Always an interesting time with them! They just feel like friends now! Hah I love going over there!
Wednesday
Saw Faye and had our final lesson with her before baptism! She is officially 10/10 excited for baptism in her own words and we are as well!! It's been super fun to teach her!
Thursday
Went on an exchange with our district leader Elder Millis. He's from the 801 so I guess we can be friends. He came to Fredonia to do the baptismal interview for Faye and we had a really good day together! We were in Dunkirk trying a few people but nothing was really going our way. There was this lady just standing outside smoking so we decided to go talk to her! Most people will throw the cigarette away for the moment when they talk to us so we're really killing two birds with one stone. Anyways we just opened our mouths and shared with her why we are here and gave her a Book of Mormon! She told us she is Catholic which I've learned means my parents were Catholic at one point and I've never been to church. Hah we got her name and number and she said she was willing to meet with us so we will see what happens there! I always love to look back on the day and see all the people that were placed in our path! It's so amazing!
Friday
Finished up my exchange with Elder Millis and helped Ammon out with his mission preparation! He did 10 times better today than he has before so I was pretty happy about that! At night we went to see one of the less actives in our area who has been super sick! She said she wanted a priesthood blessing so we were glad to go and help out! I love giving blessings! It always amazes me that the words just come to your mouth when you need them. We're promised that in Doctrine and Covenants and I've seen that a lot on the mission!
D&C 100:5-6
5 Therefore, verily I say unto you, lift up your voices unto this people; speak the thoughts that I shall put into your hearts, and you shall not be confounded before men;
6 For it shall be given you in the very hour, yea, in the very moment, what ye shall say.
I know that we can receive that promise as long as we speak the thoughts of our hearts!!! So doooo it! Speak your heart I guess! However cheesy that may sound. Do it! Especially with missionary work!
Saturday
The long awaited day of Faye's baptism!! This week has been crazy just trying to plan everything. On Sunday I was told the baptism couldn't be in Fredonia after I had told the Nickersons we could do it there. We asked the Stake President and he made an exception to do it in Fredonia! So we were planning on that until we saw that there was no hot water at the Fredonia chapel, making for about a 45 degree baptism. Bishop was obviously worried about that temperature but I just wanted to have a baptism where family could attend! Heck people have cut holes in the ice for baptisms! Their whole family is basically less active so I knew this was an awesome opportunity! So after a back and forth struggle we finally came to the conclusion that the baptism in Fredonia would be better for the family and everyone involved! So after the font was all filled it was about 50 degrees. Burrrrrrrrrr. Haha that's where the Yarbers come through ABSOLUTELY clutch. Brother Yarber came four hours before the baptism and dumped 80 gallons of boiling water into the font. He's going straight to heaven for that. He got the font up to about 70 degrees which is no jacuzzi but definitely tolerable! Hah after that it went super smoothly and we got her baptized!! Great day to be a missionary! So happy to be able to help someone out like that! It was a special day!!
Sunday
Church back in Fredonia and it was really good! Faye had to go to Jamestown with her parents to receive the Holy Ghost and she loved it! Even with the whole Nickerson clan down there we still had a good crew at church including 7 Less actives! Hah people are coming back to church!! Good stuff. We had 24 at church and that's not too bad! Earlier Elder Ekins was telling me that he doesn't believe in saying goodbye to people in areas. After church today he told me something along the lines of: "Okay now I see why you would want to say goodbye to these people!" It really does feel like family with such a small group and it will be sad for me when I leave this area! After church we had 3 appointments that all fell through so welcome to the life of a missionary haha. We went and tried some of the less actives we didn't see at church and invited them to come back! We'll see what happens there!
Had an awesome week and the highlight was definitely Faye's baptism!! I was so happy that everything went so well!! I hope you all have a great week!!
Also if you want to see what the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania mission is all about please go here. There's a guest appearance from yours truly and it's an awesome video!!!
