Week 19 New Years, New Companion, Same Hallz

Hey everybody!! Hope you all had an awesome New Year!! 2016 has arrived. This week has been crazy! With transfers and everything it's been super long but good!! I'm excited to get back in the regular swing of things!

Here is all the goodness we did:

Tuesday
Drove down to Pittsburgh to pick up Elder Ekins! I drove all the way down and back and lemme just say driving in a big city like Pittsburgh is a trip... Haha I swear whoever put the city together had no concept of roads so there's just streets coming out of nowhere.  I love Pittsburgh though, it's so pretty and I especially love feeling like I'm in Gotham!!!  Heinz field and PNC park are really cool and we got to see that for a sec! We had a little extra time before transfer meeting so we went up to the view of the whole city! So awesome and I'll send a pic of that! All in all it was a long day and now I'm with Elder Ekins!

Wednesday
Made our usual Wednesday Westfield run and tried to see as many people as we can over there! Ended up seeing a few and calling the long list of potential investigators that we have. We set up a few appointments with them so we'll have to see what turns up out of that! Other than that not too much excitement to report! Basically just getting Elder Ekins in the swing of things here in Fredonia!
Thursday
Had a lesson with Faye and she's about ready to be baptized!! We're pretty dang excited!! Should be happening next week!! It's so cool to see everything that's happening in their family! We also had to be back home tonight at 5:30 to clean.... Haha that was super fun and a little different way to spend New Year's Eve! Honestly doesn't even feel like New Years! This year has been crazy! Looking back at where I started this year to where I am now is amazing! Never would have guessed that I'd be here in New York, but I know I'm supposed to be here!!
Friday
Well folks the snow finally came and it came hard core. We got dumped on!! We spent a lot of the day out shoveling and helping out! We knocked a few doors to see if people wanted help and we actually got turned down for that which I thought was pretty dang funny.
Us:"Hey do you want your driveway shoveled?"
Them: "Nah we're good, thanks."
Us: "Okay have fun doing it yourself."
Elder Ekins said that to some lady and she kind of gave us a weird look... Hah he's a straight up type of guy which is what we need in this area! I also finally walked on my mission more than a mile so check that one off the list. The roads were nasty so we decided to walk! Feels good to actually walk but extra shout to all those elders in the world who have to walk miles and miles everyday. Very grateful for the car and the ability we have to get places real quick!

Saturday
Saw the Matos family which was a little scary without my Colombian companion... Sister Matos doesn't speak any English! I knew I was going to have to talk a lot so I was hoping all my practice would pay off and it did! I was able to understand all that they were saying and we ended up having a really powerful lesson. I was able to tell them of my experience in the sacred grove and it was super cool for me to share that with them in Spanish!! I wish I could teach more in Spanish but hey I'm like 30 miles from Canada so what can you expect? I just have to keep studying my one hour each day and hope for the best.
Sunday
We were in Jamestown for Church and the Nickersons came again!! Third time is the charm, and Faye can be baptized this Saturday!! I'm super excited not only because she will be baptized, but because they have asked me to do it!!! Pretty pumped for that!!  We also saw one of our investigators Stephanie and she is really going through some hard times! We kinda started over with her today and just asked why she continues to meet with us when so many people tell us they're not interested. She finally opened up to us a little bit and the member that came with us really helped us out to testify to her why God gives us trials sometimes! She has felt the spirit so many times she just has a hard time recognizing it! I think there is some promise with her so we will keep inviting!!
I also just want to put a plug in for member present lessons! They are so important to us as missionaries!! All of the best lessons on my mission so far have been with members! Take an hour out of your Sunday or whatever you have time for and go out with the missionaries in your ward! I promise you it will make a difference in your life! I wish I would have gone out with them more before I left, it would have helped me a ton!!

Hope everyone has a good week as you return to school or work or cleaning the house up or whatever you might be doing today!! God bless!

I got soul but I'm not a soldier,

Elder Halls
