Hey,
We taught Dorothy at the Stoddards which turned out to be a great decision. Nothing quite like teaching in a members home. I think it was great for her! That night Jimmy Johns was doing this crazy deal where all their sandwiches were a dollar so the Dushku's hooked us up and we had a good dinner with them. They're our homies in the ward and give good life advice haha! Later that night we met a new Spanish guy which is always exciting for us. We've basically got our finding set up in zones throughout Pittsburgh that correspond with Spanish speaking countries. This guy was from the Salvadoreño mine so we'll see what happens.
Don and Tammy are doing really well. They're both on really different levels gospel wise so teaching them can be a little interesting. We started the lessons over with Tammy because she hasn't been able to sit in on them and the first one went well. Don is an amazing man. He just gets it and it's the best thing. He calls the Book of Mormon the keystone and they just know they've found the true church. I just pray things keep going well with them! They adopted us as their three new "kids." ☺️
We had a few good lessons on Thursday and it was good to get in with people. We officially wrapped up the lessons with Dorothy and she should be good to go for next week! We saw Pete as well who is a less active we've been working with a little bit. I'm not sure what happened but he committed himself to come to church on Sunday. It was crazy. To try and seal the deal we had him say a prayer and tell God about his commitment. It was definitely one of the most sincere prayers I've heard in awhile so I hope he makes it out! Later that night we had an appointment at 8 with Rudy and when we called to confirm 15 minutes before he didn't answer... We decided to just go hoping it wasn't a waste of miles and sure enough he was just on the porch waiting for us. 👍🏽 I shouldn't doubt people as much as I do! He ended up having a Guatemalan PA ramble, but we managed to introduce the Restoration and Book of Mormon so we'll take it as a success! Better yet his neighbor came and joined us half way through so there's potential there. We'll be back.
Friday was zone conference and it was really different than others we've had in the past. President Johnson only has one more zone conference and then he goes home... We spent some time talking about what to expect with the Bednars and it's just crazy to think the Johnsons are almost done! Things are changing in the PPM. It was a good conference with a lot of focus on the Savior and how all things are together in Him. It was definitely a reminder I needed! After we wrapped things up President showed us the movie Chariots of Fire and I liked it! I hadn't seen it before, and I thought it had a solid message. Let's do some running.
Saturday was spent helping some members move and we moved two pianos... Those things are beasts. After the move we saw Don and he scared us with some drop talk. 😳 He's been having some doubts and after some discussion we came to realize he just wants to know more about Joseph Smith. I think we got him back on the right path, but it was scary for awhile. He's already received a witness of the Book of Mormon we just have to remind him sometimes. We talked about the Word of wisdom as well and that presents a little challenge for him. We've got some work to do!
Sunday was a WILD day. We had the regional broadcast for the North America Northeast area so church started at 10:00 instead of 1:00. This will come into play later in the story.... So we get to church and 9:55 hits and the parking lot is empty. Why? Well, the Pittsburgh marathon was happening so if you weren't coming from Southside you probably weren't getting to church becuase almost every road was closed. So we started church with 7 members in our little grupito. 😬 The broadcast was good, and after it ended we headed back to the apartment for some lunch. Right as we sit down to start our studies the phone rings and who could it possibly be? Jorge. Hah Jorge decided to come to church and surprise us but he in turn was surprised to find no one at church at 1:00. Whoops. We decided to take advantage of having an investigator at church at went back to teach him. It was weird without studying for him but I think it went pretty well. After dinner with the Waites we cruised on over to the Colombians house and Ro told us all about the Book of Mormon. Turns out she's been listening to it at work and has understood EVERYTHING. She probably spent 15 mins telling us everything she's learned and it was exactly right. I was amazed and didn't really know what to say... I've never had someone jus reteach us everything but I loved it. Some people just get it and we're happy to teach them more!
Dorothy will be getting interviewed this week so we should be having a baptism this week! I'm excited! Thanks for the support everybody!
Blessings,
Elder Halls
