Hey,
Started off the week with a nice lesson with Dorothy. She's an older lady that referred herself a little while back and she's pretty awesome. We've been teaching her a little bit and this week we invited her to be baptized. At first she threw out the typical I've already been baptized but after talking about immersion she was all in. She's got a long road of preparation ahead of her, but she said she'll prepare for May 13th. I'm excited for her. ☺️ We saw Jorge and Janet again on Tuesday night and I truly look forward to lessons with Jorge. The guy just gets it and I love it! He's read about 10 chapters in the Book of Mormon and he comprehends what he reads and said that the Book just makes sense. He's chugging right along and it's great! We finished up the gospel of Jesus Christ with him and he's looking forward to learning about the commandments. Jorge is the man.
Thursday I was on exchanges with Elder Jarvis in the walk area. Going into it I wasn't super pumped because we had 3 lessons planned and a dinner back in South side and I knew we were just going to be finding all day in Swissvale with no dinner. 😕 I decided to just have a good attitude and I think the Lord blessed us for it. We didn't have anywhere to be nor any set lessons, so it let us talk to a lot of people without worrying about buses! The new Prince of Peace initiative came out that day and we made good use of it. We got to talk to this 13 year old girl named Tolu and she shared the video right after with her friend through a text. Hah, it was insane. It's amazing to see how powerful these initiatives are and if you haven't seen #PrinceofPeace look it up! The Lord taught me a good lesson of just trusting him and letting him guide us. We saw his hand several times on our exchange and I'm grateful!
Friday was good as we were able to prepare Jorge for general conference. Luckily we're on lesson 4 (The commandments) and we figured it was a perfect time to talk about following the prophet with conference the next day. It went well and as always he had great questions about some of the things the prophet has said recently. He ended up committing to come watch conference with us at the church and he did! He came for the last half of the Saturday afternoon session and all of priesthood. I was impressed! That's a lot of time for someone new to the church but he seemed to enjoy what was going on and I hope he felt the spirit!
Conference was great and I always leave it with the desire to do better. I particularly liked Elder Sabin's talk about being all in. My mission has really taught me what it means to give it all to the Lord and it's been a great blessing. We're asked to give it our all in different ways and capacities and for me right now I need to give it my all in the mission field. It was a great reminder and I'm grateful for all of the leaders of the church and their guidance!
Random Stuff
- I had THEE spiciest salsa I've ever tasted this week. We went to Las Palmas and got tacos and I loaded up on this salsa because it looked amazing. It was, but soooo spicy. Lesson learned, always try it first. 😬
- One of our investigators wanted to take a picture of an African American member of the ward because someone had told him there were no such things as black people in the Mormon church... Oh boy.
- I watched priesthood Session in Spanish and it's not quite the same without hearing their voices. We're blessed to speak English!
Well I hope everyone is enjoying a little nicer weather and that you enjoyed conference. I'm excited to go back and read the talks. It's good to hear them, but I feel like the real blessing comes as we study and apply the things we were taught! Thanks for all the support and for keeping in touch!
Eating spicy things,
