Week 83 Will.i.am

Buenos días!

Started this week off off guns blazing and ready to invite some people to be baptized. It's been hard to find people willing to progress but we decided PMG says invite people to be baptized no later than the second lesson and we need do to better with that. Sometimes it's weird to think that we should set specific dates with people before they've even come to church but that's what the Lord asks and we're determined. Jim accepted a date for the sixth of May  but then got super nervous with tithing. He's got a lot going on in his brain so we'll see what happens. In other news, we saw Will!!! From afar... We decided to do a stake out to try and find him. 😏 I just have to know what's going on with that man or it will haunt me forever... Anyways we got downtown and went to Market Square and started to post up looking for Will. We had just started when I spotted him walking about 100 yards ahead of us. That was a miracle in itself, there was a lot of people down there! Dang. So what do you do? Start speed walking. I decided running would put off the wrong vibe and we had to play it cool. Pretend like we're just chilling downtown or something. We followed him for about two blocks and then he turned... Well right as he turned he got on a bus and was gone... 😕 It felt like a Bourne movie or something. The guy pulled his get away so smoothly. It killed me but now we know what bus he gets on, we will solve this mystery. We pulled a good move later that night with Jorge. He lives right by Janet who is a less active we teach about every week so why not do a two for one right? It went so well and Janet and her brother took charge and taught Jorge the plan of salvation so well. I thought about jumping in but then I remembered this is their language so better let them throw down. I was so happy with how it went and Jorge was pumped to study more. Soooo good!

Will was found!! 😜 We finally talked to him and we were super smooth about it. It literally worked too perfectly and we couldn't do it again if we tried. We spotted him from deep and then did a lap around the block to catch him right on time. Literally right as we turned the corner so did he and we practically ran into each other. It caught us all off guard and we got to talk to him for literally a minute. Things have gone down in his life but he told us he'd call us... I was just happy to get in contact with him after so much time. He seemed to be happy to see us! We ended up calling him the next day and for the first time in a month he answered. Boo-yeah. Lesson to come this Wednesday.

Jorge continues to do well and ask amazing questions. Things like where does it talk about the sacrament cleansing us in the Bible? He keeps us on our toes but it's really fun teaching him. We asked him to prepare to be baptized on May 6th earlier in the week and he's kind of taking his time. Didn't really say yes but never said no. Jorge seems to be one of those that wants to take all the lessons and make sure he has all the information before joining. Fine by me, I'm excited for him!

We had a crazy Saturday this week. There's a lady named Dora that's been coming to English class pretty consistently and we got to meet with her and her two boys in the morning. It was kind of unexpected but really good! We picked them up as new investigators so we'll see what happens! English class works. 👍🏽 Bro. Dushku and I went on splits to go see Erica and the lesson went pretty well! She ended up coming to church the next day so something got through! She denied our baptismal invitation and then came to church the next day... Some people are hard to understand but we'll take it. 😂

Sunday was sweet! I got to translate ward conference with the headsets and that's always a little adventure. It's really good practice and you learn a lot! After church we went to try some potentials and we pull up to all these Hispanos having a BBQ. 😍 Well we just waltzed up and started talking and 10 minutes later we were eating chicken with these guys. It was sweet!! Haha they were super drunk and really funny but we got a lot of contacts from it and when they're done drinking we'll go back and teach them the gospel. It was funny to hear them say how they want to do better and be like us but starting next week haha. It was nice of them to feed us and we enjoyed it because we didn't have a dinner that night. God provides.

Random thoughts
  • We've started trio bonding nights where on Tuesdays and Saturdays we watch one of the church movies before bed. We've got Johnny Lingo and the Phone Call down so far, the church has come a long way in its film making...
  • Sister Reyes is famous for her spicy food and it's killing me. Mexicans know how to throw in some peppers.

Life is good and I feel like this was a successful week where we set some good expectations with people and did our part which is to invite! I'm grateful for the teachings of Jesus Christ and I know that we find peace and joy through following what he taught as best as we can. Hope everyone enjoys conference!

Much love,
