Hey all,
We had exchanges this week with Millersburg which is an area about 20 miles north of us. They serve in a tiny branch so it's made up of a bunch of small towns and funny people. We quickly burned through all the people they had to try for the day so Elder Butikofer decided we should go knocking doors and boy was that fun. It's always so funny to me to hear people's reasons of why they're not interested. I'll give you the highlight of the day:
EB: *Introduces ourselves and the church and invites him to learn more about the Restored Gospel*
Man at door: "No thanks I'm Lutheran."
EB: "Oh, good for you! How has that helped you in your life?"
Man at door: "Good."
Us: *proceed to bear testimony of the gospel*
Man's wife: *comes to door as well* "Hey guys were not interested we're Methodist.
Me: "Wait, are you Methodist or Lutheran?"
Man's wife: We're Methodist.
Man at door: *Looks at me unhappily.*
It was really entertaining to go out and knock for a little bit. We didn't really have a lot of success, but that's alright. After that we had dinner with their investigators commonly known as card crew. Apparently it's the old Millersburg tradition of dinner, cards, and a lesson with these typical Pennsylvanians. It was great!
Wednesday was stacked. Cindy invited us over for her birthday and it was awesome! She had her friend there and she had a tooon of questions. They were typical Wikipedia questions and I felt like we were prepared and answered them pretty well! I was just pumped that Cindy had her over because they're best friends and it felt like we were getting the "test." Things are looking good with the Rodriguez family. After that we hauled over to Jesse's house (RC) and it was awesome to get to know him. I gained so much respect for him. He's an example of a man who has sold all he has to follow the Lord. Literally. He sold all his stuff in California to come to live in the ghetto of HBG. Him and his wife help out so many kids in the area who come from homes where drugs, violence, and crime is prevalent. Jesse is a Christ like man and I admire that. Right before dinner we got a call from Ujjwal asking if he could "have some of our time" later that night. YES. I wish I could explain Ujjwal better but I just can't... He's so pure and humble and he just had so many good questions from what he has read so far in the Book of Mormon. We teach him very slowly but it's worth it. He said a beautiful prayer to close our lesson and we're praying he can come to church!
Thursday and Friday were pretty average. A couple of lessons with some of the people we've been teaching, but no fireworks. It did rain a ton on Friday which was pretty crazy. When it rains it pours.
We ran into some bad luck on Saturday. Elder Gray's back tire went flat and after some patches, duct tape, and frustration it still wasn't working. I didn't realize how important the bikes were. They really do save us a ton of time. It cut down our options for the day but we still got to see Carol and help her out a bit! Transfer news came out that night as well and we're losing Elder Rich in the trio... I'm sad. He's been really fun to serve with and we'll miss him. It's going to be weird to go back to just one companion after four months of life in a trio. I've really liked being in a trio! It's interesting at times, but overall I've enjoyed it and it's been a party! Here's to a new transfer. 👍🏽
Sunday was pretty fun. Church was good and after it we went to this baby shower for Cindy's sister. She invited us to come and get some food and it was right by the church so why not right? Cindy seemed pumped that we came and it was good to meet all of her family. We love the Rodriguez crew!
Random Stuff
- Millersburg lives in a mansion. It's a three story house and we slept on the top floor. It felt like sleeping in the attic at the cabin. 😜
- The fireflies are back!
Well I'm starting my last transfer today so that's weird. I'm excited for all that will happen in the coming weeks. Gotta keep working hard!
Putt for dough,
Elder Halls
