Hey everybody,
Solid week in P7 and we had some people come to church! One of the best feelings as a missionary is when you see an investigator or a less active come into the Chapel! 👍🏽 We've been blessed. We've also had some nice weather recently so that makes everything better.
Tuesday
We finally got to meet with Belle who is a convert of a little over a year. She's been through the ringer and it's tough to get in her home to have a lesson. It was warm enough to meet outside so we definitely took advantage and had a good chat. The bottom line is I'm thankful for a stable family! So many problems come when people are unfaithful to one another! After that we had a really interesting experience with one of our new investigators named Will. He called us up on Monday saying that he wanted to meet somewhere privately downtown. I was honestly a bit scared becuase Will is a big dude and works security. He told us it wasn't going to be a good thing so I'm expecting some anti sort of drop talk or something... 😬 Turns out it was none of that and he's just going through a really hard time with his marriage... He started crying and telling us everything and I honestly had no clue what to say or do but testify of the Savior. You don't study for these kind of things in the morning ya know? Things ended up going really well and he wants to meet a couple times a week to work through things. Will is a good man. You have to admire a man taking an hour out of his day to talk to two 19 year old kids from Utah that he's met one time. That's faith ladies and gentlemen.
Wednesday
We did our weekly service at the Presbyterian church sewing bags and hygiene kits for girls all over the world. My sewing game is slowly improving and I actually kind of enjoy doing it! Hah it's pretty relaxing most of the time and I feel like I'm helping out a good cause! All the women there think it's hilarious that we sew and it is a bit of a funny sight to see all these Elders sewing. 😂 We had a really good experience with Hermana Iris later that night. We've kind of hit a wall with her not knowing what to do. She's been less active for over a year taking care of her husband and since he passed away last month it's been really hard on her. Our lessons before had been really quiet and frankly awkward. That morning In our studies all we could think of doing was read the Book of Mormon with her so we decided to roll with it. We got there and just asked where she was in her reading and it ended up being perfect because she's in 3 Nephi 18 where Christ institutes the sacrament amongst the Nephites! After reading a little, it was obvious that this was exactly what she needed and she thanked us for answering her questions! She had felt pretty unworthy to go to church and the chapter really solved her concerns. It was powerful! I'm thankful that we followed the Spirit because we had some other ideas that I'm sure would've worked, but this was what she really needed! 👍🏽
Thursday
Had a good first lesson with Daniel who is a member referral from our group leader. It turned out pretty well and he seemed pretty excited to read the Book of Mormon. We've been trying a lot of ways to teach the restoration recently. We've used the restoration pamphlet for so long and it was starting to feel like a memorized presentation. This time we used the pictures in front of the Book of Mormon to explain what it was and I thought that was a good visual for him! We also met with Hugo who is a convert of a couple years! He's an awesome member missionary that helped baptize the Reyes family. We had a good lesson with him and overall a good day despite the cold!
Friday
We had another awesome lesson with Will and he's doing really well! It was sweet becuase we met up again downtown and we're just teaching him the gospel in downtown Pitt with all these people walking around and here we are at this little table teaching him from the Book of Mormon. It was great and makes the gospel feel even more real! He's been really accepting of everything and just chill with wanting to meet with us and learn. We're excited for him!
Saturday
The weather was amazing and after a few weeks of gloomy weather we finally got some sunshine and it eventually got into the mid 60's! Sunshine and good weather just makes missionary work a lot easier. More people are outside and willing to talk and we were able to meet a few people that way! We also helped Bro. Belliston at the church he bought which is always fun. He's currently turning it into a community theater to make clean/family friendly productions and it's awesome to help them out when we can! Topped the day off with Wilbur and his family and they've been listening to the Book of Mormon! We love them and hope they keep going!
Sunday
Will, Iris, and Belle all came to church!! It was awesome and so good to see them be so welcomed by the members. Will was participating in Elders Quorum like he'd been a member his whole life and it was fantastic. We really have high hopes for Will going forward! It's crazy to see how we went from thinking he was going to drop us to him coming to church. You gotta love it. 😜
Random thoughts
- Our district is made up of a bunch of self proclaimed nutritionists. Missionaries think they know everything.
- We were talking to Bro. Reyes about what he thought of the lessons when he was first learning about the church and what made the difference for him. His answer? "You just need to pay attention." That easy folks.
Hope everyone has a good week wherever you find yourself! I know that the the Lord lives and his teachings bring happiness to those that follow them! We see it all the time and I know it's true!
