Week 72 "I ain't gonna disappoint nobody"

Good morning from a cold day in Pittsburgh! We've had a busy week and saw a lot of Pennsylvania. I'm convinced that I've seen more of Pennsylvania than Utah. It's a good state to travel!

Tuesday
We had interviews in the morning with President and they were great! We now have interviews every 6 weeks which I think is good, it keeps you motivated! Talking with President Johnson always makes you feel like a champ. He is so loving! We had a good chat about goals and plans and how important 2017 is for me! After that we went on exchanges and I was with Elder Holdaway. We found a new investigator and handed out a few Book of Mormons so it was a solid afternoon. Bro. Crossley signed up for a team up that night and we saw the Smiths who recently joined the church. Really humble people that don't have a lot. We made dinner with them and then talked about really simple principles of finance and food storage. It was a humbling experience and made me super grateful for all that I've been blessed with. They're in good hands!

Wednesday
We spent a good chunk of the day in the office doing some reports for the first of the month. Always a good time haha it was cool to compile all the numbers for the year and see what we did well and how we can improve! We finally got in to see Bro. Skaggs who is a less active fella we promised to show Light the World to. I'm glad we got in there and it was good to talk to him a little bit about goals for this year. He's a good guy, he just needs some help with priorities. 👍🏼 Bro. Snow came out for a team up that night and we saw an older couple that wanted a blessing. I always love giving blessings because you never know what you'll say until you put your hands on their head. Such a special thing! We tried Merle without success and then Bro. Snow decided a hot chocolate was in order which was spot on. The wind was howling and it was COLD. If you haven't experienced the cold and humid wind of the east coast count your blessings.
Thursday
Back to demolition in the morning and it's coming along really well. 😂 We're getting some good PR which makes me happy. It was kind of slow after that as we headed out to Harrisburg for exchanges. It was snowing which made traffic awful... We sat in traffic for an hour and a half just barely moving along. Brutal. I started doing some of our weekly planning which was helpful but other than that it was a long drive to HBG listening to some talks Elder Parke has on his USB. 👌🏼
Friday
I was with Elder Swisher aka Swish Daddy who I got to know really well back in the Williamsport days. He's a stud and we had a good day out finding in the suburbs of Harrisburg. There's a ton of work out there! We were finding a lot of less actives and potentials and the majority of people were open to having us back to teach them. 💰 I hope those Elders can get a good teaching pool going because it's definitely out there for the taking.
Saturday
Drove all the way back to Pittsburgh on a cold morning. This trip was a lot faster than the first which was good! We got our planning done and had a good dinner/lesson with the Bortz. Our focus has really turned to David who has committed to come to just one Sunday of church a month while his family now comes every week. It's hard to discern his fears of coming to church, but we're really trying to help him along. The message went well so I think there's good things to come for him! He committed that night to come two times this month. I see progress.
Sunday
This was the day of church that missionaries live for. Sis. Bortz got up and shared her testimony as well as Michael Smith who is a recent convert in the ward! He was so pure as he got up there and it made me cry a little haha. I loved when he said "And I ain't gonna disappoint nobody." He was receiving the Aaronic Priesthood later that day and his conviction in honoring the Priesthood was remarkable. Michaels on fire and it's good to see!

Random stuff
  • We played ball for morning  exercise while we were in Harrisburg and Elder Parke finally met his match in the form of another 6' 4" Idaho boy named Elder Madsen. It was amazing to watch.
  • The heat is currently not working at our apartment. Say hello to beanies and gloves.

Well boys and girls, we're blessed as we serve the lord and keep his commandments. I've been studying the war chapters in Alma and I've been impressed with how we need to stand firm in what we know is true and fortify our places of weakness. Satan wants us to lower our standards and come down to his level. He will tempt us relentlessly. Stand firm in holy places and be not moved. Keep on keeping on.

Go Steelers,
