Happy New year! Crazy that we're in 2017!! 2016 was good to me and I was able to serve the Lord every day of that year. It feels so good to say that. We had another good week even with a lot of people out of town and what not.
Tuesday
The weather was amazing so we did some of our studies outside. It was 45 degrees or so with pure sunshine and hardly any breeze. It felt sooo good. Soak it up while it lasts right? We did a lot of finding and we're currently going through a list of some former investigators that look promising to see if they're ready to accept the gospel. So far we've found out that one lady died and the other guy we met was crazy. He started talking about how we're all energy and we just have to become the energy. I asked him how we become the energy and he just kept rambling on.... We gave him a Book of Mormon so we'll see what happens with our energy buddy. The finding grind continues.
Wednesday
We had exchanges with our district leader and I ended up with Elder English who may be one of the most interesting men in the world. He's a triplet from Alaska that joined the church 2 years ago. He's the only member in his family and it was cool to serve with him! He was just real with people and it was refreshing to see how he just cared for people and wanted to get to know them. We ended up teaching a cool lesson with a lady named Lauren. Missionaries have taught her mom in the past, but she answered the door and came out and started talking to us. She had some great questions and concerns so hopefully we can get back there!
Thursday
We had a good lesson with Diane who we recently started teaching from a member referral. We had members with us and it went great! She felt loved and was thankful for the spirit we brought into her home. We're excited for her so hopefully she makes progress! Bro. Trout (LA) was a lot more positive this week as well so that was good haha. He's 62 and always talks about how he's ready to die... C'mon man. We helped our Elders quórum president move out and yet again it was the missionary moving crew. Just us 4 and him for awhile and then another member that lives a few doors down showed up. Our poor elders quórum. We're working on it.
Friday
We were on exchanges round two with the Pitt North Zone leaders who live maybe 35 minutes from us. I was with Elder Goeckeritz who I served around back in Willy. It was refreshing to look down instead of up. I think he's 5' 4" and Parke is 6' 4." It was different. We started off really hot by giving out two Book of Mormons in 20 minutes by just taking the "miracle loop" around the apartment. That's a faith builder for sure. It was cool to see Elder G just testify to everyone we saw. Something I could definitely do better at even if it's a one sentence testimony! We ended up cooling on down and after knocking several doors we had nothing to show for it. Luckily we had a good pick me up at a Mexican restaurant with a member and then headed home! Good exchange.
New Year's Eve
We had weekly planning to do and had to be back by 6:00 that night to clean the apartment. On the bright side of things our apartment has never looked better and our next week is looking good.
New Year's Day
Lots of people showed up for church and the talks were really good! Great way to kick off the year! We had dinner with the Milletts and ended up having a really good message at the end. We talked about goals and as we finished we just started talking about some less actives in the area to see if they knew them. It turned into referral time and they invited us to fast with them this Sunday for one of their friends. It was awesome. I love working with the members! We also taught the Bortz and David is still holding back a little bit. Not sure what that kids deal is, but he'll only come to church once a month. I guess we'll take what we can get.
Random Stuff:
- Elder Parke and I hate losing to a fault so one of our comp goals this week is to stop being a "sore losing yuppie."
- Shout out to my family for sending me those blow dart nerf gun things, it's made for some fun times.
- Some missionaries don't like that I don't allow uncontested lay ups during Pday ball. If you're gonna come down the lane you gotta earn it.
Hope you have a good week!
Just Believe,
Elder Halls
