Week 44: New companion and a lengua de vaca

Well another week in the books! This one was highlighted by a change in companions which is always an adventure. It feels like starting over fresh as a new missionary!

Tuesday
Elder Montgomery shipped out in the early morning hours so it left Elder Swisher and I to own the streets of Williamsport. We had a pretty good day and it's always fun to walk around in Willy. There are some crazy people for sure...  Elder Spencer got here around 9:30 that night and we made the long trek back to Muncy. He is from Orem and has been out almost a year. I think it's going to be a good transfer!
Wednesday
Had a good district meeting with some new members of the district! We have a lot of studs so it's looking like it will be pretty sweet! We saw Dianna who has crazy hair. Little bit of green, blue, and all that good stuff. She's awesome and committed to church so we're pretty happy about that! We saw the crazy cat lady and no cats jumped on us this time, so praise the heavens. The Fuentes family fed us some amazing food, and it's always good to be with them. ¡Viva Chile! The hills here are awesome. Rolling hills of just green forever. I snapped a decent pic so check it out.

Thursday
We saw Rob Fluck in the morning and he seems to be doing better piece by piece. I think we will be seeing him at church in the near future! We also made our once a transfer visit to see Lori Kaye. She's hopping mad that her Direct TV isn't working. I guess that's what happens when you're old. We dropped by the Peña family and had a good talk with Julio! He loved church on Sunday! He's awesome and I hope he can be the driving force for that family! We wrapped up with Lu and Dylan which was a little crazy. Dylan had pretty much no Christian background so it made teaching him really rough! We kind of went too much too fast so we'll have to fix that problem the next time!
Friday
We finally went and ate at the restaurant that is literally right next to our apartment. It's probably about time. Missionaries have been using their wifi for the longest time so we felt like we needed to give back. Mission accomplished.  We saw Mary and she's working hard to quit smoking! Man, that is so tough for some people! She smokes a pack a day so we are trying to help her quit! She needs strength beyond her own right now! We "bugged" the Youmans  about going to the Philly temple which is always a good time. I love knocking that door.
Saturday
We went to the memorial service of a man in the Ward who passed away last week. We sang "Families Can Be Together Forever" and I thought it was really powerful. I could feel the spirit testifying to me that it was true. So thankful for my family!! Later in the day we went to see Santa who is one of our Spanish investigators! So we knock the door and the Peñas were there too! You know one Latino family here in Williamsport and you know them all. We ended up having a good discussion with them and even better tacos after.  (see random thoughts) Wrapped it up with David and Kayla who have 9$ to their name right now but are committed to drive 45 mins to church. I absolutely admire the faith of some people! Makes me super grateful for the blessings I have!
Sunday
A tooooon of people showed up for church. It's been amazing the last couple of weeks! A bunch of people progressing! Ahhh it's great.  We went and saw the Lakes family and Kaley is on fire. She knows so much and is so excited to be baptized! She spent the week at girls camp and it was soooo good for her! Man this was just a good day. We saw Dylan later that night and teaching him is always a little tough! He has no Christian background at all! It's so foreign to us! It was a super powerful lesson and he's just an awesome kid! At the end he asked us what religion God was... Hah never had that one before. We all practically answered in unison and said: "This one!" I felt the spirit confirm the truth of that statement. It was a great ending to kind of a weird week!

I have been trying to throw some more of the crazy daily things of missionary life. Here you have it.

Random thoughts
  • Starting on July 1 two of the zones in our mission are joining the Baltimore Maryland mission. (Lancaster and Chambersburg) we are losing 46 missionaries.  I will be staying in the PPM but woaaaah. We are all shocked.
  • Lightning bugs are still sweet.
  • Santa fed us two delicious tacos after the little lesson! I mean they were good. So I asked her what kind of meat was in the tacos! One tasted like pork but I couldn't tell what the other one was.... So she tells me: "lengua de vaca" or for the non Spanish world cow tongue.  Hah woooooah. It was actually pretty good! Just a little chewy. My comp didn't understand what she was saying so I explained to him in the car that we just ate cow tongue. His response? "I guess that's why mine was so chewy." Good times.

Doing pretty well and looking forward to a solid transfer! Let those good times roll!! Next week is 4th of July so go eat a corn dog for me.

Peace to all,
